So, we have some good news to share. After Owen's initial pic line clotted, they had to place iv's temporarily, but just a few days ago, they were able to place another pic line in Owen. Now BOTH boys have a central line. They are able to be given nutrition, so hopefully they will begin gaining weight soon. AND to address the decreased urine output, Owen is currently recieving 70% of their fluids - Emmett is receiving 30%. Because of all of this, their urine output has improved! (I.e. owen's has increased, Emmett's has seen a slight decrease.)
In addition, the surgeons have decided to put off surgery for 1-3 months (though it is looking to be closer to 1 month). At the time of surgery, the care team is planning on doing both the separation surgery and the omphalocele repair. We are hoping that between now and then the twins will continue to grow and do well.
The hospital has offered to give us the opportunity for family pictures. I am looking forward to this for two reasons: 1.) we will have a few pictures of all of our boys together 2.) Ethan and Liam will be allowed to meet their brothers for the first time!! To prepare for the occasion, I have scheduled a meeting for Ethan with the family life specialists to prepare him for the hospital environment, and for seeing his brothers' condition in real life. They will also familiarize him with the tubes and equipment that he might see. I am not sure what to expect from his reaction, but I want him to know that it is ok to feel scared, worried, uncomfortable, etc.
The twins are currently just over 2 weeks old. Since their birth, Dave's mom and grandma, my mom, my sister-in-law, and my nieces have been willing to come and stay with Ethan and Liam so that I can spend time at the hospital with the twins. My best friend and my god-daughter are staying next week, and then Ethan and Liam will be traveling to oklahoma and Arkansas to visit with family before the school routine begins. All this to say THANK-YOU to all my family who were/ are able to help! I would not be able to spend my days at the hospital and my evenings enjoying time with Ethan and Liam if it were not for you all!
